Functional Analysis Report (FAR): Benchmarking Insight
 |
Chipworks Functional Analysis Reports focus on a device's floor plan and block level functionality, to give you an architectural understanding of the die. This knowledge, in conjunction with basic process information, can then be used as a benchmarking tool to perform a high level cost analysis.
Easy to buy, easy to use, the FAR report is delivered with three different, and increasingly complex, types to meet the technical competitive intelligence needs of every client for every device type. Don't see exactly what you need here? A full range of customizable options are available.

Functional Analysis Report: Basic
A basic look at the layout to learn node and architecture. Used to determine if further analysis is warranted and to keep tabs on a large number of competitors.
- Die photo
- Lower metal sufficient to see architecture
- Cross section
Functional Analysis Report: Standard
Gives a functional analysis for the device. Enables costing, but also gives an in-depth understanding of the architecture. Often used for a block-level understanding of where you are leading and where you are falling behind.
- Process summary
- Package and die analysis
- Process analysis (via SEM) and critical dimensions
- Annotated M1 floorplan with major blocks identified (using public information)
- Analog block analysis with high resolution of individual blocks
- Memory analysis of the ten largest memories
- Standard cell measurements
Functional Analysis Report: Advanced
An in-depth functional analysis including, board-level identification of devices, an in-depth discussion of the architecture of analog blocks not identified by public documentation, and I/O analysis. Contains everything in the Standard format, plus:
- Identification of devices on board (where applicable)
- Discussion and analysis of block function not identified by public documents (architectures)
- I/O Analysis with zoomed-in images of I/Os
- Average standard cell density and estimated gate count analysis
- Identification of digital blocks (where possible)
- IP vendors found on device (using public information)
